The Guts of Touring

The tour has been amazing, it rolls on and on and along the way so many miles and so many faces in the crowd. Peter Kay introduced us in Manchester, a wonderful man and his words were hysterical, i went on stage with a large grin and a wobble from laughter. You had to be there. Southend was a struggle for me as i felt so tired from the journey and the hectic amount of press we are doing, but thats what you do, and then you don’t. Southend was as ever a big dripping wet from the bar near where we signed our merch, for me its a problem, seeing two fisted drinkers takes me back, and back even further. Happy days. Great gig. Cardiff was a great show, really enjoyed that one Rebecca Thomas took some lovely pictures of us on stage, she is a real treat. Chalky Davis introduced us a few months ago. Nottingham was grown up and a great show, my man ager Julian drive up from London which made me feel very loved. Being away plays tricks on me, it makes me sink with sadness as i think of home and how things are doing, but i know that nothing changes for long, apart from age. Louise is so great and watches my back when things get sticky. The car is holding up, we did change it for one journey for a Jaguar, but it was not as good as the Audi, we swapped it back. Gordon is driven and he drives, i fall asleep, sometimes. Melvin rests in the back and listens in to all the banter up front. At the show our catering feeds us well, and often its hard to eat when the show is not far away. A sleep or a nod off in the dressing room essential. Carly looks after us back stage, she does a sterling job. Its all going well, the ship is on cruise, we are on calm seas, i think, and the waves are little more than slight rumours. Our destinations, Harrogate, it won’t be long, it flys by. A strange bed each night disrupts the flow one my life, pillows chewed and tossed around like dreams, some beds seem nicer than others, The Lowery in Manchester wins bed of the tour thus far. I was disappointed with others. The real juice is that we had our first chart in so many years, we hit number 14, not sure how many sales that is but its good news and a flake in the ice cream. Our record company are doing such a great job, very pleased with how its all going, it could not go much better, well it could but we would have to be prince or sting, we re neither we are Squeeze. The glue holding it all together is the passing of time, the wind between each passing car and the clouds which float above my head, its the sun the rain and the words people say, its the smiles and the hands you shake, its the music that folds the sheets of our bed together and the love.
