Monday Morning in Elko

Woke up after a broken nights sleep, too hot, too cold, not enough covers, too many. John got on the bus and the part is on its way. I went into the Casino it was 9am, to find it busy with people on the slots, beers being sipped and the Starbucks empty. A man in a cowboy hat passed me like a Bison heading for the rest room, this was my all too early for me with my blocked up nose and head stuffed with bus air. Back at the shop, garage, men are back at the engine with their tools and overalls, heads being scratched once again, and I’m assured that this time we will be on our way, if not its the car, and that would be an arse. The laptop is connected and there are smiles on everyones faces, ciggaretts are being lit and coffee being poured, its good to hear some laughter. All of the guys in the shop, garage, are out to look at the bus and join in the happiness of completion. The laptop looks busy as targets are being reached one by one, its like being at the launch of the Space Shuttle. The lucky news is that we broke down where we did, only 20 miles from Elko which is has a big collection of repair shops, garages, because there are mines still working here and farms all around. We have almost been here for 24 hours i have been as patient as a cat in a field of mice, i have my recovery notes to lean on and I’m forever grateful that my life turned when it did. I have learnt so much, putting it all into practice is often a struggle but in times like these the switch flips. The railway track comes through town, this was one of the towns where the tracks were made and then laid, i can see it out there in lone longline heading off in one direction to California and the other to the East. A train passes by, it take about 15 minutes to get through the station its so long, its so slow too. Im always amazed by the trains over here, and the amount of work it must have been to lay all of the tracks across this massive country. We have one stop to make, the airpot to drop the rental car that Michael drove to Salt Lake this morning to get the spare part, 400 miles a round trip. He will head to his bunk, i will revert to self and shut my eyes too if i can. I’m about done with Elko and I’m about done with Monday morning.
