Flying home. Aug 22 '07
Flying home.
Once on the plane I took my seat, right up the front at the sharp end. I know it will cost me but I do feel better for being in a posher place on the plane, not sure what that is all about. The first hour or two was smooth and then the plane hit some high cloud and we rocked about, I dropped a sleeper and the next thing I knew it was dawn. I watched half a sun come up over the ice baron shapes below, and then fell asleep again waking up in time to miss my bacon roll. A good landing, which I always love and home in the car. For the next five days I have been trying to catch up with time and life, my sleep has been all over the place and a sense of depression has rolled over me as the tour fades into the past. The sharp reality of home creeps up, the cocoon of touring slides away for another day, but gradually life becomes itself and all is well, its as if I never went away. What was all the fuss about, I'm not sure. The flying was ok after all, my Virgin air miles mount up and with the grey horrid weather we are having here in the UK I want to be back on a flight and into the blue once again. One day, the wheels are going to touch the ground.
Up up and away x

The last night. Outside way up a hill at the Winery, in such a wonderful location with killer views over SF and surrounding places. To end the tour another great show, it seemed intimate and lively. It is so great playing along side JB again, together we move like seals on ice. So to end the tour another great night and a drive to the airport hotel for some late night internet weather checking. I enjoyed the flight home, a few tears but not as many as before, years before. Thanks to Glenn and his kind words at the airport, I said bye to Natalie who stayed on for a few days, the tour was gone, all long shadows now.
Back to reality. No more room service for awhile.

Our big west coast night out. After some shopping and a few meetings its time to get on stage and entertain the LA crowd, they are a tough lot. The golden circle at the front of the stage separates us from the real party people, I can see them all dancing in the isles. The after show is massive, there is even a free bar, but I snuck off for some pizza and another ride to the hotel with the crew. A nice night seeing old friends.

A few hours up the road and another great night, Chris Topham turns up to see us with Katrina and friends from Brighton, its all lovely. Honest. Back in the crew mini bus and into LA to the hotel. The crew on this tour have been amazing, everyone gets on so well, I feel very lucky to be here with them. Steve has done us proud.
I think I know the audience, and I'm not sure why, maybe its because they give us such love, its hard to touch but I can feel it.
Sleep now hush!

Its so great to be here, air, no heat, wind, no muggy evenings, and a great hotel. The gig is an hours drive from town, there we meet Bob from Taylor who is looking after us, what nice chap. Our show was really good tonight, some weird girls in the crowd get chucked out for being drunk, dancing is a plenty. Sushi and ice cream before the show. Back at the hotel, sleep….the time difference catches up with me very quickly. Tonight I love my bed. And I love the internet.
Saucy.

The long old drive left me feeling knackered and beside myself on the very hot open air stage facing the water front. It was a hot old night, we all managed to stay in our suits which was impressive. The last show of the tour for Emma and her kids, so a sad night, but they seemed happy enough being up late and dancing away with the crowd. Again more after show then you can shake a stick at.
All nice people though....
Its all going to quickly, now my two are flying home this is their last night, Emma went today which was sad, they were wonderful to have around, it made a family affair of the tour something I have always wanted. Great show tonight, a lovely place to play out of town in a posh part of Washington. We had a lovely lunch, not sure where, Glenn treated us, which was nice of him. I tired to not think about flying all day, instead I focused on the show and getting the girls up at 6am for their check in. And mine too.
I saw my old friend John, who lives here, we were in Promis together 15 years ago, when a tour like this would have been the last thing on my mind. The band are all getting on well, we are playing great and I'm very excited about where things might go, but its one day at a time for me, and today is a nice day.

A fantastic show, loads of hanging around, many after show guests to greet and meet in the club that seems to be from mars, a building next to nothing, just a car park. A great place to play though. Grace Cissy and I drove there and back on our little tour bus, leather seats, DVD, all the mod cons and plenty of A/C which is much needed on the muggy east coast. Back to NY for us after the show, in bed by 2am. Another long old day. Some of Grace’s pictures from the tour are becoming very sort after by the band, they look really great and out of the blue she gets paid by Steve. Cheap at half the price.
nice show lads....
Catering to die for. A lovely in the round show in what was once a tent, I was in full groove all night being that close to the audience, it was so much fun. Seeing the kids dancing was a real buzz too. Joseph was enjoying the show with Cissy and Grace…ah the partridge family were all getting along. The hotel was a little rough, but the pool kept everyone happy. Another nice night out, another great show, what’s going on. Glenn is playing really well, even if his voice is not at 100%.

Playing in a casino is something else, there are large people everywhere eating and playing the machines, its sick, but worth seeing, I'm glad we don’t have places like this in the UK.
After New York the show slipped a gear, but not in a bad way, we played well it just didn’t have the full shilling attached.
The chips are not down.....but the chins might be!

Nokia/Beacon Aug 20 '07
Our busy day began with radio then TV then sound check. A new club on me, the Nokia is well structured and provided a great show for us all. My crew fell asleep, jet lag, although Grace managed to shoot pictures all through the show. Cissy and Nat running around being family together. The band played well and being in New York was a thrill, our happy fans loved the set and we loved them, it was a love fest. Being here means seeing lots of people and being in demand, not a bad thing really. I tired to make a nice meal of it, I hope so.
Cheese on toast at tea and sympathy is always a nice meal.
The Beacon is a classic theatre, we have played here many times before and tonight was amazing the fans went for it, enjoying our run though the set with open arms. Back stage, which is cramped I managed to have an AA meeting with some local friends. A real lift to the show for me. Afterwards we all went to a club, Emma looked lovely, her children were being baby sat, my two were up for everything, including the very late night. I like being back on tour, this time I can see how it can work and how happy life can be for everyone who wants it. Oh, and some shopping too.

Tea party time. Aug 20 '07
Boston.
Its great to be back here, the gig is huge and our stage is larger than most airports I know. Cheap Trick are opening for us, I never knew their music very well but enjoyed their set from the comfort of the dressing room. We had a lovely show, nice to see old faces in the crowd, and young ones too! I had an email from a fan who complained about my shoes being brown and my suit being black, I was impressed by the detail of his comments. I was being lazy, I have new shoes and I should wear them, maybe tomorrow night in New York. Many happy memories for me being here in Boston, but that’s for another day. The bus ride to NY was long and boring, everyone fell asleep, including me. I fell into one of the bunks on the bus, Glenn’s bus. But its great to have Robin at the wheel....zzzzz

Cod and chips Aug 01 '07
Cape Cod, a one hour drive from Boston. A Holiday Inn. A venue with as revolving stage, in a tent. An up for it crowd. Its good to be back, although I did not feel 100% tonight, not the full me. We were well looked after by the Melody Tent staff, the sun came out and it was like we had never been away. After the show I was whisked away by the plethora of managers we seem to have, back to the hotel to an early night while the band head for a bar in town. I had no say in the proceedings, I felt a little over protected by the sudden move to get me in the car. But I'm here now and its time for bed while the rest of the party, I guess party.
Its nice seeing Natalie every day, she has a busy time of looking after us all but she does a good job, like daughter like son.
Time for some rest until the morning comes. Cd
