Two Of Us Chasing

IMG_0339

Being on tour with Glenn Tilbrook is like being on no other tour, its calmer than i thought it would be and its warm and friendly. We hit the ground running in Falmouth Cornwall, i stay at the Idle Rocks hotel, a really wonderful place to stay, and Glenn has his bus where he Miles and Carly sleep, home on wheels. We are the odd couple. It really feels good being on stage with Glenn although i have to work very hard to come up to his level of musicianship, its almost better to play the supporting role, and in doing so i feel inadequate most of the time. Glenn makes me feel ok about my playing, he is ever so gentle. The shows take us through Wales and finally 11 shows later to Liverpool where we are given a fantastic round of applause and all the love in the World. The tour worked. We brushed off some cobwebs and got to know each other once again. Its the very beginning which is a very good place to start, Peter Kay came to see us, it was good to see him looking so well, he sent me the most wonderful email about the show which pleased me no end. There is a lot of love out there for the two of us, only we can get this wrong. I don’t think we will. My back has been playing up yet again, this time its hard to get out of the car and i start to feel very old with it all, i try everything, a good muscular massage at the hotel in St Mawes helps, and then some ice, then some heat and then some rest, its not feeling great on stage and im standing there as if i have followed through, one leg out this way and one out West. Its not a good look. It feels bad all the time but we hobble along into 3,000 miles in the car on tour in Audi luxury. Meanwhile Lou is feeling lost at the barn and we have mad talks about moving again, its only been a month but i know how she feels the isolation for her is possibly a mistake, you must never try to silence a Gemini, not that im trying to. Im happy to do whatever it takes to find home, this may not be home it may be another passing step towards home and only more time will tell. God Knows. Another festival for Squeeze mid way through the month and its the most relaxed show we have ever played, i floated off stage at the end and Glenn mentioned he felt the same way. It was a hot night and the crowd just went with it, our varied set of hits and new songs from the recent cannon. Larmer Tree. All good there and in the in ears it sounded great. July ended with the best solo show i have ever done, it was so great so warm and loving. I received a standing ovation for my story telling, a few songs and a few beads of mid day sweat. Port Elliot is such a great festival full of kids families food and music. I was blessed, i got it right, the story fell at the right place and each song gently placed me into the place called home. I never knew i could do this, tell a story of my life and have people listen while i sing a few songs. (- still can’t sing but what a songwriter n storyteller!) according to one review from a Twitter post, i was so pleased he foucused on my singing, i do sing flat, its not one of my finer points, at least im not sharp, that would be much worse. I almost bought a large shed on wheels made to look like a small school chapel as a memento of the show which was for sale next to the stage i played on. The Strypes are in Australia and Japan this month, its a long way and the journey can take its toll, but not if you are as young as they all are, and i hear its all going great. Demos are coming, the new album is coming, its a long birth this one but it has to be right. Album two is the one. Here me after said show at Pot Elliot. http://idler.co.uk/article/idle-talk-chris-difford-of-squeeze/
