The move is not far away and the barn is coming slowly into its completion, each week we have seen changes taking place and each week the excitement of living in a field comes ever closer. Also on the horizon a few shows with Glenn, and rehearsing is taking place at a pace that suits us both. Speed is not an issue but content is. Learning the songs on the every moving target is time consuming and challenging. Something else to look forward to, its a month of looking forward to things. Songs of The Key Of London in Regents Park also looms in the air and the wonderful Guy Barker is being the sweetest co producer. Time slips like a leaf under the door on a winters day. May is a warm month and summer sticks its nose into ever loving nights, i love it when the nights get longer and the sly gets larger and wider, the clouds change and the grass grows ever quicker. Winter seems so much longer than the summer and the sky gets smaller and darker in the pinching winds. May is the looking forward month, its like having your toes on the edge of the pool where warm water awaits and the love of life slings into happiness. Indian food and Indian music go so well together, Cissy Grace and myself went to see Anoshka Shanka at the Festival Hall, outside an Indian food market, a street market full of joy and happiness. The music was so engrossing i was lost in the history of family and melody, how the two embrace. Each musician played with such preciseness and effortlessly, my ice cream stayed in its tub while i watched and listed in awe. And to wind up the month a gig of my own at The Hey Festival, no awe there just mud and a few cold faces in a small tent. 9 hours of driving for a slice of pizza and £200, how things have changed. Its what i do and what i have become with age, in being and doing life seems to be just about perfect. I saw Suggs perform his one man show twice this month, he plays it so well, a story not to decimally to mine, we grew up we hated school we joined a band and all that sailed in her. He was North London and i was South, the river separates our story. I really liked the way he delivered his narrative and i learnt a lot from his humour and delivery. Its all Chris for the mill, which will be my next album title. Speaking of which, there isn’t one, although i do have a heap of songs with Boo which i love, a kind of musical without the script and a dialogue. There is also a Guy Barker jazz album which is about nine years old and needs dusting off, its all about money and i just can’t seem to find the funds, life gets in the way. So Chris To The Mill waits in a drawer just beneath file marked bills to pay. May is all about waiting, waiting in the cue is something i seem to do more and more, i feel like time stands still as i wait to pay for my petrol, while i wait to buy some pizza, while i wait. I sit in the car and wait for the traffic, hundreds of hours a year, slow, time sits and slowly provides the mind with space to think dull passing thoughts, each thought making up what is mostly bollacks.
